This is a quick tutorial to show you how to rename an item in Prophet 21 with the Edit an Item ID function. (Thanks to a viewer for requesting this tutorial.)
How to Rename an Item:
- Start in the Edit Item ID window.
- You can find Edit ID by doing an In-Line Search (aka Smart Search) from your home menu.
- Enter the new name.
- Hit Save.
- The item will now show as your new Item ID and the old Item ID becomes an alternate code for this item. (If somebody happens to enter the old item ID, Prophet 21 will still pull up the new item ID.)
Note: Be aware that alternate codes do not have good checks and balances on them. Theoretically, a user could put the same alternate code for the same item.
- If you decide you don’t want to use that code anymore, you can simply select Delete on the alternate code and hit Save.
