Distribution Requirements Planning (DRP) View

Understand not only what the system recommends, but exactly why it recommends it.
- Forecast history and projections

- Reorder point and safety stock calculations
- Supplier lead-time analysis

Cost of Inaction
Inventory Sentinel’s prioritization framework is based on the “Cost of Inaction” principle. By default, exceptions and issues are automatically ranked by their financial impact on the company. So, instead of manually sorting through hundreds of randomly sorted issues, buyers can quickly assess opportunities and risks based on their impact on the company, ensuring the most important inventory decisions are addressed first. This approach brings high-value opportunities and critical risks to the top of the priority list and provides clear visibility so buyers can rapidly pivot and make stronger purchasing decisions with confidence.
- Instant visibility from Morning Brief dashboard
- Clearly identified stockout risks
- Highlighted consequences of late purchasing actions
- Tracked lead time performance & supplier reliability
- Ongoing monitoring of supplier issues
- Automated risk score for suggested PO lines
Purchasing Guardrails
There are built-in guardrails within the Inventory Sentinel system to prevent costly purchasing mistakes caused by things like data anomalies, forecast distortions, typing errors, or unusual buying patterns. The system triggers a block on extremely high purchase quantities unless a user explains why the purchase is necessary. Also, a risk score is assigned to every suggested PO line, and by default, purchase suggestions are sorted to place the riskiest decisions at the top of the list. The benefit here is to protect the user and the company from math that goes haywire or from not seeing something important because it was buried too far down the list.
- Overbuy prevention & quantity validation
- Clear visibility into purchasing risks and exceptions
- Risk-based sorting
- Maximum Inventory controls
- Demand Spike & Data Anomaly protection

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Inventory Sentinel replace my ERP?
No. Inventory Sentinel is designed to work alongside your ERP, not replace it. Your ERP remains the system of record for inventory, purchasing, and transactional data, while Inventory Sentinel provides forecasting, inventory optimization, replenishment planning, purchasing recommendations, and buyer workflows. Data flows bidirectionally between the systems, so your existing processes remain intact while buyers gain additional planning intelligence.
Which ERP systems can it integrate with?
Inventory Sentinel is designed as an ERP-agnostic platform, allowing enhanced inventory forecasting and replenishment for distributors without replacing their existing ERP system. Today, our primary integration is with Epicor’s Prophet 21 (P21), where Inventory Sentinel seamlessly exchanges inventory, purchasing, supplier, and transactional data while keeping P21 as the system of record.
As the platform continues to evolve, additional ERP integrations are planned to support a broader range of distribution environments.
How does forecasting work?
Inventory Sentinel uses statistical demand forecasting with five forecasting models and automatic method selection. The system continuously evaluates demand patterns and assigns the forecasting approach that best fits each item.
Forecasts can be recalculated quickly and are designed to adapt as demand patterns evolve. The platform also includes automated demand smoothing to help reduce the impact of abnormal spikes and outliers that could distort future purchasing recommendations.
Users can view the underlying forecast logic and understand how forecasts were created rather than relying on a black-box calculation.
How are reorder points and safety stock calculated?
Inventory Sentinel dynamically calculates reorder points and safety stock using factors such as:
- Demand history
- Forecasted usage
- Service level requirements
- Supplier lead times
- Demand variability
- Safety stock policies
The platform provides drill-down visibility into the calculations so buyers can see exactly how reorder points and stocking recommendations were generated. Users can also adjust settings when business conditions require changes.
Can buyers override system recommendations?
Yes. Inventory Sentinel is designed to support buyers, not replace them. Users can override forecasts, adjust safety stock settings, modify lead times, change purchasing quantities, split purchases between suppliers, and edit inventory planning parameters as needed.
Throughout the application, users can review the underlying calculations and make informed adjustments when they believe business conditions warrant a different decision.
Does Inventory Sentinel generate purchase orders?
Yes. Inventory Sentinel creates suggested purchase orders based on forecasting and replenishment calculations. Buyers review those recommendations and can modify them before release.
Once approved, purchase orders can be sent back to the ERP system. The solution also supports transfer recommendations and multi-location inventory planning workflows.
What safeguards are in place to prevent purchasing mistakes?
Inventory Sentinel includes several purchasing guardrails designed to reduce risk:
- Risk scores assigned to every suggested PO line
- Prioritization of higher-risk purchasing decisions
- Quantity validation checks
- Configurable inventory ceilings
- Protection against unusually large purchase quantities
- Automatic demand spike and anomaly management
- Review prompts when purchases exceed predetermined limits
These safeguards help protect against data anomalies, forecasting distortions, accidental entry errors, and excessive inventory purchases.
Can Inventory Sentinel work with our existing ERP data?
Yes. Inventory Sentinel integrates directly with ERP systems and includes data-shaping capabilities that allow data to be cleaned, transformed, and organized before inventory calculations are performed.
This flexibility allows companies to accommodate unique business rules, customized ERP configurations, and data structures that may differ from standard ERP implementations.
How is Mira different from any other AI, why can't I just use ChatGPT?
Mira is purpose-built for inventory forecasting, replenishment, and supply chain operations.
Unlike a general-purpose AI assistant, Mira is integrated directly into Inventory Sentinel and understands the inventory, forecasting, supplier, replenishment, and purchasing data currently displayed on the user’s screen.
Mira can:
- Explain forecast recommendations
- Clarify reorder point calculations
- Help users understand safety stock settings
- Explain inventory planning concepts
- Interpret inventory-specific data in context
Mira acts more like a knowledgeable coworker who can see what you see and help explain it, rather than a generic AI tool that lacks access to your inventory planning environment.
How do customers get started?
Your Inventory Sentinel package includes:
- Platform implementation
- Configuration services
- User training
- ERP integration
- Historical data onboarding
The time for onboarding, training, and data preparation work varies based on your system and the amount of historical data transferred over.
What is the pricing model?
Pricing is calculated each month, based on the number of stocking SKUs being managed. Onboarding and setup is calculated separately. We’ll provide an estimate for your unique setup. Use our pricing calculator to get an initial montly estimate. Companies with more than 150k SKUs will receive a custom quote.
Is this an official Epicor product?
No, Inventory Sentinel is a standalone inventory forecasting and replenishment solution developed by Atlas Precision Consulting that integrates with ERP systems, including Epicor’s Prophet 21, but is NOT an official Epicor product.
